What is an odor eliminator?

An odor eliminator is any home cleaning product or tool used to eliminate odors from a home, office, or auto setting.

Most frequently, odor eliminators take the form of an odor eliminator spray, usually in a 4-32 oz plastic container. (Odor Exorcism, on the other hand, only comes in infinitely recyclable glass.)

An example of a non-spray odor eliminator tool (or machine) might include something like the Villa 3000 from Odor Free.

Is an air freshener the same thing as an odor eliminator?

No, an air freshener is not necessarily a true odor eliminator.

While it could safely be said that any product that effectively removes odors from the air, surfaces, fabrics, or other textiles does indeed freshen the air, the opposite isn’t necessarily true.

The category of products called air fresheners often times focus their function on adding nice-smelling aromas to the air in an attempt to mask whatever foul odors exist in a space. But this is not true odor elimination, because these products weren’t formulated to actually eliminate odors, but rather to freshen the air instead.

Are all odor eliminators natural?

Heaven’s no.

On the contrary, most odor eliminator products contain lots of synthetic ingredients—from fragrance chemicals to emulsifiers, to surfactants, it’s actually quite difficult to formulate a perfectly natural odor eliminator spray or product.

Not only is it difficult to formulate a perfectly natural odor eliminator product, it’s also expensive. From using true grain alcohol (instead of alcohol derived from petrochemicals) to premium essential oils (for scent + the antimicrobial action of limonene) to sourcing natural preservatives, when you go the natural route, the cost of raw materials goes up.

Odor Exorcism is the exception.

Odor Exorcism’s entire lineup of products is natural. Our OG natural odor eliminator spray, for example, comprises only 10 ingredients, all of which are naturally derived. (It’s kinda our thing.)

In our exorcising experience, only a natural odor eliminator is equipped to send bad smells all the way to hell without compromising the integrity of your home environment and without replacing bad smells with toxic plumes of fragrance or parfum.

How do odor eliminator products work?

It depends.

Broad-use odor eliminator sprays, like Odor Exorcism, aren’t necessarily intended for a specific application, like getting rid of smoke odor or cat urine odors on rugs and carpets. There are specific-use odor eliminators that are intended for one specific job. ODX is not one of them.

On the contrary, (like most other odor eliminator spray producers) we’ve done our best to formulate a broadly useful, practical odor eliminator that can handle most foul odors likely to be found in a home, car, or office setting. These include—but are not limited to—methane releases from human beings, sweaty shoes or clothes, remnants of refuse in garbage cans, and so on.

Unlike most other odor eliminator sprays, Odor Exorcism accomplishes all this without resorting to synthetic fragrance petrochemicals.

Some odor eliminators are quite specific in their uses.

There are odor eliminator products with hyper-specific use cases. Odor eliminators for cat urine almost always include enzymes which are scientifically engineered to counteract the ammonia and crystals contained within cat pee.

Likewise, smoke odor eliminators are specifically formulated to combat the odor left by cigarette smoke—and not much else.

Without question, the best way to truly remove any kind of odor is to remove the material which is causing it. There isn’t an odor eliminator in Heaven or on Earth that can compete with the satanic scents emitted by poop, pee, rotting melon, or rancid vegetables.

What is the best thing to neutralize smells?

The #1 most important action you can take to neutralize foul smells in your home is to remove the odor-causing material as swiftly as possible.

Beyond that, it depends on the nature of the foul smell, which is why Odor Exorcism contains several key ingredients that equip it with broad-spectrum odor-fighting effectiveness.

Baking soda

For home-brew/DIY solutions, baking soda is an excellent home remedy because baking soda has the ability to absorb and then lock-in odor-causing particles. If you’re in a pinch, sprinkling baking soda on carpets or rugs is a great way to neutralize smells and get your home environment back to square one.

Grain alcohol

This is an old trusty ingredient which accomplishes smell neutralization via a couple of mechanisms:

  1. Alcohol serves as a coagulant. It penetrates the bacterial cell wall and then disrupts the structure of internal proteins.
  2. Alcohol kills bacteria by making it porous. It penetrates the bacterial cell membrane which leads to the leakage of essential cofactors and solutes, which ultimately causes cell death.
  3. Alcohol dehydrates. It promotes drying, which deprives bacterial cells of the hydration they need to survive.

Sodium citrate

Ignored by many other odor eliminator sprays, Odor Exorcism also contains a natural compound called sodium citrate. This essential ingredient occurs naturally in lemons, limes, oranges, and other citrus fruits.

Sodium citrate acts as a buffering agent which works to balance organic materials close to neutral (about the pH balance of water). In the realm of odor elimination, neutral is optimal.

What is the most powerful odor eliminator?

As with many other things, it depends...in this case, it depends on what you mean by “powerful.”

If you all you mean is effective at any cost—including the possibility of a perpetual chlorine/bleach smell that never goes away—there exist products that could probably reasonably assert dominance as the most powerful odor eliminator.

If you’re cool with ushering synthetic fragrance petrochemicals into your home—ones that have the potential to disrupt you and your family’s endocrine systems, deliver all the symptoms of fragrance irritability, and that have no concern for the salvation of your soul—there are alternative odor eliminator products that will do the job for you.

If, on the other hand, what you’re after is the most naturally powerful odor eliminator, the answer is undoubtedly Odor Exorcism.

There’s a reason we call Odor Exorcism Heaven & Earth’s most naturally powerful odor eliminator—because that’s exactly what it is.

We’ve scoured all realms, including the terrestrial and the heavenly, for a more naturally powerful odor eliminator product, and we simply haven’t found one.

Odor eliminator frequently asked questions

How do I permanently get rid of a bad smell in my house?

Without question, the most effective way to eradicate a bad smell in your home is to remove the source of the foul odor. Next, you should wash the site of odoriferous possession thoroughly and ventilate to allow fresh air in.

What is the most powerful odor eliminator?

As we mentioned earlier, within the realm of natural odor eliminators, Odor Exorcism is the most naturally powerful odor eliminator in Heaven or on Earth.

Do odor removing sprays work?

If they have the right stuff in them, yes, absolutely. Take Odor Exorcism, for instance. Our 8 oz natural odor eliminator spray contains alcohol, sodium citrate, and limonene, all three of which combine to equip ODX to be broadly effective against a wide range of foul smell-causing kinds of matter that are frequently found in homes, offices, and cars.

Are fragrance-free and unscented odor eliminators the same thing?

No.

Unscented odor eliminators can still contain synthetic fragrance petrochemicals, even if the finished product does not feature a particular scent of any kind.

On the other side of the question, fragrance-free doesn’t necessarily mean unscented. This is exactly where Odor Exorcism falls. Our formula is 100% free from synthetic fragrance chemicals but is emphatically not unscented. Meaning, the delicious, fresh, clean scent emitted with every spritz of ODX comes directly from premium essential oils.
